Rug History

Persian  carpet history is still a mystery, Rodenko the famous Russian archeologists discoverd the earliest surviving knotted Rug among the iceberg in the first half of recent century(1949)in a place called Pazirik 80 km to magnolia boarder among the Altai mountains.

Professor Rodenko discovered the knotted rug in the frozen graves and dates back to around 400 B.C The astonishing age(2500 years) The size of this rug is 1.8 square meters with 3600 knotts in square meters.

The colours used in this rug are mostly copper brown and light green colours .

Its margin images are doubtlesly very similar to common shapes in the Achamenian period with persepolis images in the centre of  rug, there are four winged star shapes which are exactly the same as one  discovered on objects in Lorestan- Iran.

This rug is now kept in hermitage museum in Leningrad and known as Pazryk rug.

Professor Rodenko belives since Assyrian  Achamenian and Sakai images are used in this rug  therefore it has originated from Iran.

Throughout Persia, the intricate and exacting art of weaving rugs has been practised and revered since ancient times,While beautiful and interesting in themselves these rugs are also thought to have reflected some very practical concerens of day to day life.

Many cultural historiansbelive that the art of hand knotted rugs with pile originated among nomadic peoples as a mean of imitating the texture and warmth qualities of animal pelts.
